Week 48 - Sick Week!

Well, I was just really sick this week. It sucked. My comp can I had stomach problems the whole week, and pretty much nothing much was accomplished  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.  It was still a good week though because we had 2 more baptisms. We were supposed to have 3, but we found out that the dad of the family committed a big crime 5 years back, and he couldn't be baptized this week sadly. He felt super guilty, and he  told us that we were the only people who had ever know. He made a mistake, and we made sure that he knew he could still be forgiven in time. Slowly, but surely his soul can be mended new again.

This is going to be a short letter this week but I just want to tell you guys how lucky we are as human beings and children of God to be able to fall, fall and fall again, make a million mistakes, mess up really badly, and still be forgiven. We are in no way perfect, and God knows that. Does he love us less? No. The exact opposite, he loves us more. He sent his son, Jesus Christ to this Earth for us, to teach us, suffer for us, and eventually take his place on the cross for us. Then only 3 days latter, he would rise, for that every one of us may rise up as well. We can RISE. Literally, and figuratively, we may  pick ourselves up and make a change in our lives, which is what repentance is. That's why I'm in Honduras, to help people make the necessary CHANGE in their lives and to come unto Christ, which I have found is the only true and real way to find happiness in this life. I have seen it in others, and more importantly I have seen it in myself. I love each and every one of you that this litter enters into your inbox, even the unread ones ;) You are loved

Always feel free to send me a shout out and update on life, love you thuggers!

Week 47 - Hymns of a Hurricane

Yo people. Two more baptisms and a great story to go along with it.

We had 2 baptisms planned this last Saturday, and as we all know if someones about to do something good, Satan always tries to stop it, but we were determined to keep going.
Here's a list of Satan's failed attempts to stop us.

Satan Strike #1- On Saturday, we went all the way early to the house of the people who were going to be baptized, so we could make sure they could get on time for the bus. Well turns out 2 of the 3 buses were broken down, and we waited for 2 hours for a bus to come, and were late for the baptisms. There was also a mothers day activity, and we were late so we had to move the baptisms until after the activity.

Satan Strike #2- We were getting ready for the baptism, and I realized I forgot to brings towels, so I went on divisions with an 18 year old and rode on the back of his bike on his pegs to the apartment to get some towels. Once again, we beat him.

Satan Strike #3- The room that we set up for the baptism, was the room they put the little kids in to eat FRIED RICE w/ THEIR HANDS. A MESS. But we cleaned it up, WE WIN.

Satan Strike #4- The baptismal fount was new, and they had a new door knob with a new key and we didn't have it, so we almost couldn't get into the dang thing. After a short panic, we unlocked the door using a broom stick from the other side. Don't ask, IDK, but God was on our side.

Satan Strike #5- The kid Mario got nervous to get in the water because a lot of people were watching, so we had to tell him everyone would close there eyes, and after 5 minutes we got him in the water. GOD WINS!

Satan Strike #6- After the successful baptisms, we loaded up all of the investigators in a huge pickup trailer to take the investigators back because they lived far and it was late, and decided to go on one more visit. We were way out in the mountains, and very motivated. Went to the house of the people at 7:30 and they were already asleep, and surprise surprise, SATAN SENDS US HURRICANE RAINS. We had to walk up a mountain dirt path to the dirt road, and it was a river. Fell a few times, soaked and muddy, and we had to walk about 7 km or sao home in the pouring rain. Determined not to let Satan win, we sung church hymns which was really funny.

Satan Strike #7- We got home very accomplished that we had defeated the opposition in the day, but to our surprise, we walked into our house, and it was flooded. Everything. Kinda funny and tragic, but cool Honduras experiences YAYYYYYY 😌.

Love you guys, just want y'all to know that when we trust in God, and if hes on our side, we can overcome anything! Love y'all, still chill!

Week 46 - Love you Mom

Sup everyone,

This week was just a normal week. I'll be real, I'm pretty tired right now and don't feel like writing, but I will push through it for the fans (mom and dad, grandparents), love y'all, yous the realest.

So this week we got another opportunity to go to the Temple here in Honduras! We had to get up at 4:15 in the morning to leave at 4:45 on a bus to the city, so that was no super fun especially because air conditioning in Honduras does not exist in any cars. Literally have never seen AC in a car nor in a house, if this was Texas we would actually melt. But the ride was definitely worth it. The temple in Honduras is absolutely incredibly beautiful, up on the top of a mountain over the whole city. The peace walking around it was indescribable, and the experience was great, especially because we only get to go twice a year.

This week we had 2 baptisms, Mariana and her daughter Genesis. Her son Mario was supposed to get baptized with them but the little poop head duced to go vend things on a bus and couldn't get back in time because it was raining, so we went on without him. He will be baptized this weekend, along with another investigator we have named Jenny. Shes the one i told y'all about a couple of weeks ago about the beard. Shes the perfect example of persevering to the end. She probably has had the hardest life ever, and she still continues to count her blessings, and work hard for her baptism. SO HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all the mothers out there. Honduras is low key a little sexist towards women, and Im not even a politically correct person, but mothers day isn't a big thing here, but I just wanna share my love and appreciation for all mothers out there, and my mother who is the best of them all.  Tanks for carries us in your belly for  9 months. I gotta go I am sorry this is so short, I love you all, stay chill my friends

Week 45 - 40 Days and A Baptism

Hey there people. Pretty good week, buuuuuuttt tired for sure. Elder Austin and I are getting along very well, and we are laughing like constantly. We have been blessed tremendously and have been having a fair amount of success in the work. We kinda do a mix of Service, working with the people we have, trying to find new people, working with less active members, and at the same time trying to go and help all of the other missionaries that we are leaders of. TIRED. But also content.

A few Updates: We ate a rib-eye steak last week, shout out to Elder Austins parents. We also had a baptism on Saturday for a kid named Carlos, who has his 2 sisters, brother and aunt that he lives with are members of the church, and he wanted to be baptized too. They live really far away, but it was worth the effort. Although hes just a little kid, very good example of doing the small things: READ, PRAY, & CHURCH!

Small things are the most important. Reading the scriptures, and praying and conversing with God are the only ways we can personally grow our relationship with God. Its such a simple thing, I don't know why we as people don't understand it sometimes. Our relationship with God grows the same way our relationship with our parents on Earth. Our Mom and Dad do just about everything for us, and we choose to appreciate it or ignore it. As a child, we normally opt to not notice every sacrifice our parents do for us. But unfeigned, our parents continue to give everything they can for us because they love us. What do they normally ask of us? They just ask us how our day went, whats going on in our lives, they just want to TALK! Now we look at this scenario, but this time focus in on our Heavenly Father. Day by day he blesses us. He protects us, helps us, and knows whats best for us. Literally everything good, including the people and small happy moments in our lives, our puppys, everything is given from him. Do we always thank him for all these things?  Ask yourself on a daily basis, what is something good that happened today? Get on your knees, and thank God. We we receive the small blessings we receive daily, our relationship with God will grow. We learn to trust in him, and his will for us, and when hard times come, we will have the necessary confidence in him to help us, like we do with the seat-belt on a crazy loopyloop roller coaster. We trust we will be okay in the end because hes there. I am a witness to answered prayers. I have received answers to questions, received blessings, and been a lot happier for it.

Matthew 7:7-8 "7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

Last week my comp and I did a 24 hour fast from food and water, and it just happened to be on the hottest, most walking day that I have ever worked. We struggled just to focus from dehydration, but kept an overly positive attitude about everything, and did not give into temptation. Jesus fasted for 40 straight nights and days, and suffered through it all. We were on a metaphorical "40 days", and were determined to push through the end. The last visit of the night, and after we were gonna end our fast. The family asked us to go with them to carry 8 gallon jugs of water a few kilometers away, because they didn't have access to water. We looked at each other, and told her, "Come on, Vaminos!!" Let me tell ya, my years of playing sports were put to the test with my mental toughness, walking up a mountain with all that water. We considered it our day 40, and made it to the finish, and celebrated with a coke. A hard day, but what made it worth it was the reason why we were fasting.

We made a sacrifice of 24 hours without water or food, and suffered for a greater cause. We fasted for the people we are teaching, that the hardships and trials that some are currently going through, that they would be able to withstand them and overcome them. Any moment during those hours where I thought of myself, my mind was competently changed because I knew I was doing it to help someone else. We we choose to put others first, we lose ourselves in the process, and find joy through the light of Christ. If you are struggling to find what makes you happy in life, try helping someone else thats struggling harder with the same problem. That's how we can be happy. Its what Jesus taught us, I put it to the test, and can verify to you about it too. Jesus knows all about your problems, because he suffered for each and every one of you.

I know Jesus lives, and loves us. Pray to know and find out. Help others to be happy. Its simple. Love y'all, stay groovy,

Elder Butler
